In recent years we have seen deregulation of the freight side of the business. Deregulation of the charter bus industry may follow in the future. In spite of this so called "deregulation" motor carriers find themselves under an ever increasing burden of statutory regulation. Operators are governed by the Motor Vehicle Act, the Commercial Transport Act, the Criminal Code of Canada, the Motor Carrier Act, the Employment Standards Act, and the Workers' Compensation Act, to name a few.
